Roles & Responsibilities

Provide focused pre-operative nursing care for pediatric patients, ensuring safety and comfort
Perform age-appropriate assessments and vital sign checks before procedures
Educate and prepare families and patients for the perioperative experience in a reassuring, clear manner
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the perioperative team to coordinate seamless care
Document assessments, interventions, and communication in the patient record accurately and promptly
Maintain a safe, child-friendly environment and advocate for patient needs throughout the pre-op process

Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN) licensure (eligible to practice in Missouri preferred)
Experience or strong interest in pediatrics and pre-operative nursing
Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
Comfortable working with children and their families, demonstrating excellent communication and empathy
Ability to complete required orientation and credentialing for the Shriners facility

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Pre-operative pediatric assessment and preparation
Age-appropriate communication and family education
Familiarity with perioperative workflows and safety protocols
Clinical documentation and electronic medical records
Basic pediatric medication administration and monitoring
