Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, child-focused pre-operative nursing care to pediatric patients
• Perform timely pre-op assessments and document findings clearly in the medical record
• Prepare patients and families for procedures, explaining steps in an age-appropriate way
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative team members to ensure safe handoffs
• Assist with medication administration and maintain accurate perioperative records
• Maintain a calm, reassuring environment for children and caregivers during pre-op processes
• Participate actively in orientation and team training to promote consistent, high-quality care

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio (or compact RN privileges if applicable)
• Pediatric nursing experience or strong interest in pediatric perioperative care
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Comfortable performing pre-op assessments, IV starts, and age-appropriate patient education
• Strong communication skills with children and families, plus teamwork mindset
• Ability to complete orientation and required facility onboarding

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical pediatric assessment and vital sign interpretation
• Perioperative and pre-operative nursing processes
• IV therapy basics and monitoring for pediatric patients
• Electronic health record documentation and handoff communication
• Infection control and safety practices in the surgical setting
• Family-centered care and effective caregiver coaching
