Roles & Responsibilities

Provide compassionate pre-operative nursing care to pediatric patients, ensuring safety and comfort
Perform accurate pre-op assessments and document findings in the medical record
Educate patients and families about pre-operative instructions and what to expect
Collaborate with surgical teams, anesthesia, and perioperative staff to coordinate smooth handoffs
Prepare patients for procedures, including IV starts, medication reconciliation, and verification of consents
Monitor and report changes in patient status promptly to the care team
Support a positive family-centered environment and address caregiver concerns with empathy

Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Washington preferred)
Experience in pre-operative nursing or pediatrics preferred
Current BLS required; PALS highly preferred for pediatric care
Strong clinical assessment and IV skills
Excellent communication skills and comfort working with children and families
Ability to pass required background checks and meet facility credentialing requirements

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — equivalent experience considered

Knowledge & Skills

Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication techniques
Pre-operative preparation and checklist processes
IV insertion and medication administration best practices
Familiarity with electronic health records and accurate documentation
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
Calm, adaptable approach in a fast-paced surgical setting
