Shift Type: Night 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (typically 3 nights/week). Rotating 12-hour day/night options may be available depending on department needs; shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert palliative nursing care focused on symptom management and patient comfort
• Assess and manage uncontrolled pain, severe nausea/vomiting, fatigue and other distressing symptoms
• Administer medications, manage IVs/central lines/ports and perform phlebotomy with skill and compassion
• Document thoroughly and accurately in Epic to ensure continuity of care
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (social work, pharmacy, PT, respiratory, chaplaincy) to meet patient and family needs
• Deliver family-centered end-of-life care, including peri-death support and bereavement planning
• Educate patients and families on goals of care, advanced directives, and symptom control strategies
• Float to units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed to support staffing and patient care

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to work in Ohio)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BLS required; ACLS preferred
• Epic charting experience required
• Demonstrated skill with medication administration, pain management, IV/Phlebotomy skills
• Ability and willingness to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity
• Previous travel experience preferred but not required
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline
• Comfort working with adult and geriatric populations in a palliative/end-of-life setting

Knowledge & Skills

• Palliative care principles and symptom management
• Pain assessment, PCA pump management and opioid dosing (equianalgesic/breakthrough dosing)
• Medication administration and proper disposal practices
• IV management, starting and maintaining peripheral IVs and care of central lines/ports
• Phlebotomy skills
• Use of Epic for charting and documentation
• Advanced directives, ethical and legal considerations around withholding/withdrawing treatment
• Cultural awareness, spiritual needs identification and bereavement support
• Non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic interventions for symptom relief
