Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate post-anesthesia care for pediatric patients as they recover from surgery
• Assess and monitor vital signs, pain levels and airway status, intervening quickly when needed
• Administer medications and treatments per orders and monitor effects
• Collaborate closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons and the perioperative team to ensure smooth handoffs
• Educate families about recovery expectations and discharge instructions in a kind, clear way
• Document patient condition, interventions and progress accurately and promptly
• Participate in orientation and unit-based training to maintain high standards of pediatric care

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Missouri (or compact RN with Missouri authorization as applicable)
• BLS required; PALS and ACLS strongly preferred or willing to obtain
• Previous PACU experience or strong post-anesthesia recovery training, especially with pediatric patients
• Comfortable with pediatric assessment, airway management and IV medication administration
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced perioperative setting
• Availability to complete orientation (orientation provided)

Education

• ADN or BSN in Nursing (BSN preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid understanding of post-anesthesia recovery protocols and pediatric physiology
• Proficient in assessing pain, sedation level and airway/breathing in children
• Skilled in IV therapy, medication administration and monitoring for adverse effects
• Strong documentation habits and familiarity with electronic medical records
• Team-oriented mindset with the ability to prioritize and respond calmly in urgent situations
• Family-centered care approach and the ability to communicate clearly with caregivers
