Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, expert nursing care to adult and geriatric neuroscience patients, with primary focus on stroke and other neuro diagnoses
• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and manage dysrhythmias, activating Rapid Response or Code teams when needed
• Start and manage IV therapy, perform phlebotomy, and care for peripheral and central lines
• Titrate and manage cardiac and vasoactive drips when required, following unit protocols
• Chart accurately and efficiently in EPIC, using SBAR for handoffs and interdisciplinary communication
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including PT, Respiratory, Pharmacy, Radiology and Rapid Response
• Participate in EMU care if trained, and support unit needs through floating when requested
• Adhere to unit scheduling rules including weekend coverage and make-up shift policies

Qualifications

• Active RN license (state authorization to practice in NC required) - please ensure current licensure
• Minimum 2 years nursing experience with at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience in your work history (hard stop)
• At least 2 successful contract assignments completed (no first-time travelers)
• Required certifications: BCLS, NIH, NIHSS; ACLS strongly preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty
• Comfortable with telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experience with EPIC charting and unit systems such as PYXIS
• Ability to float to other Med-Surg/Tele areas and work every other weekend as scheduled

Knowledge & Skills

• Med/Surg and Telemetry clinical expertise
• Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
• IV start, IV therapy, phlebotomy and blood product administration
• Central and peripheral line care and management
• Titration and management of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Familiarity with EPIC, PYXIS, and SBAR communication
• Neurological assessment and care for stroke, seizures, ICH, SAH and other neuro diagnoses
• Non-invasive airway management and basic respiratory support
