Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor neurological patients, tracking changes in status and escalating when needed
• Administer medications and treatments safely and document interventions clearly
• Collaborate with physicians, neuro teams and interdisciplinary staff to optimize patient outcomes
• Perform focused neurological exams and use monitoring equipment proficiently
• Provide compassionate education and support to patients and families during care transitions
• Respond effectively to emergencies and assist in implementing rapid interventions
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Louisiana
• Current BLS required; ACLS strongly preferred for stepdown settings
• Previous experience in neuro stepdown, progressive care, or critical care is preferred
• Strong assessment and clinical judgment skills, especially for neurologic patients
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; reliable and patient-focused

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) - BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Neurological assessment and monitoring (NIH stroke scale, neuro checks)
• Familiarity with telemetry and advanced monitoring used in stepdown care
• Medication administration, IV management, and titratable drips
• Proficient charting in an electronic health record
• Ability to prioritize, triage, and respond to rapidly changing clinical situations
• Patient/family education and discharge planning coordination
