Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality critical nursing care to Neuro ICU patients, including post-op craniotomy and neuro interventional cases
• Manage ventilators and complex hemodynamic needs with close collaboration with RT and intensivists
• Perform accurate telemetry and EKG strip interpretation for acute neurological events
• Serve as charge nurse when assigned, coordinating patient flow and providing break coverage
• Work with the stroke team to implement rapid assessment and evidence-based stroke care
• Document patient care in Cerner and communicate concise bedside reports at shift change
• Support unit safety by using nurse aides and sitters effectively for patient monitoring

Qualifications

• Current RN license in good standing (California) and active RN credentials
• BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience preferred
• Experience with ventilator management and telemetry/EKG interpretation
• Familiarity with Cerner electronic medical record
• Ability to float to sister facilities when needed and adapt to occasional mid-shift changes
• Willingness to complete required pre-contract DYS exam through UNA within 24-48 hours and meet pass criteria

Education

• Associate degree or Diploma in Nursing required; BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Neuro critical care principles including CVA, ICB, ventriculostomies, and post-craniotomy management
• Telemetry monitoring and accurate EKG strip interpretation
• Ventilator settings, troubleshooting, and collaboration with respiratory therapy
• Line insertion recognition and care, and familiarity with ventriculostomy management
• Charge nurse skills including coordination of care and relief coverage
• Strong bedside reporting and Cerner charting proficiency
