Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality critical care to ICU and PCU patients, including post-CABG/PCI cardiac patients and those with sepsis, DKA, or respiratory failure
• Manage mechanical ventilation and noninvasive respiratory support, collaborating closely with respiratory therapy
• Administer and titrate vasoactive and sedative drips safely and per protocol (levophed, amiodarone, heparin, precedex, propofol, etc.)
• Continuously assess and interpret telemetry and monitor strips to detect and respond to arrhythmias and patient deterioration
• Float between ICU and PCU as needed, adapting quickly to unit-specific workflows and patient acuity
• Document patient care accurately in Paragon and communicate pertinent changes to the interdisciplinary team
• Educate patients and families about care plans, procedures, and recovery expectations with empathy and clarity
• Participate in unit-based teamwork, including supporting charge duties when assigned and helping maintain safe staffing

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license in Texas or eligible to obtain Texas licensure
• Minimum 3 years of recent critical care (ICU/PCU/Stepdown) nursing experience
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Proven experience with mechanical ventilation and titratable drip management
• Comfortable with telemetry monitoring and cardiac post-op care (CABG/PCI)
• Ability to float between ICU and PCU and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
• Experience with electronic charting (Paragon preferred) and strong clinical documentation skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma acceptable; BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong critical care knowledge including ventilator management and hemodynamic monitoring
• Telemetry and monitor strip interpretation
• Titration of vasoactive drips and sedation protocols
• Post-operative cardiac care principles and complications recognition
• Sepsis and DKA management fundamentals
• Effective communication and teamwork with physicians, RTs, and support staff
• Prioritization, rapid assessment, and emergency response skills
