Shift Type: Varied/as-scheduled coverage (May–July dates listed). Primary in-hospital 24-hour call shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:00 AM (24-hour coverage, 1:4 call ratio). Clinic days: 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM with a 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM lunch (typical weekday clinic schedule); when working clinic days, night call may not be required. Rotating 24-hour call and day clinic coverage as scheduled.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality obstetric inpatient care on labor & delivery units, including management of admissions and rounding
• Perform and manage vaginal deliveries and C-sections safely and efficiently
• Respond to obstetric emergencies (e.g., ectopic pregnancies, ovarian torsion, abnormal bleeding) and provide definitive care when indicated
• Cover obstetric call as scheduled (1:4 call ratio), including timely callback and coordination with answering service
• Deliver outpatient clinic care on assigned clinic days and coordinate care transitions between clinic and hospital
• Collaborate closely with MFM specialists, hospitalists, nursing staff and surgical assistants to optimize maternal and neonatal outcomes
• Document patient encounters and procedures accurately in EPIC and support clear communication with the multidisciplinary team

Qualifications

• MD or DO with completed residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology
• Board certified or board eligible in OB/GYN preferred
• Active or eligible Virginia medical license (ability to obtain state privileges; credentialing may take 60–90 days)
• Proven experience in labor & delivery including vaginal deliveries and C-sections
• Comfortable providing obstetric call coverage and managing common obstetric procedures (suction D&C, operative deliveries, management of ectopic pregnancy, etc.)
• BLS and ACLS certification (or willingness to obtain promptly)
• Clean professional/medico-legal background (temps may be approved with clean background/no malpractice history)

Education

• MD or DO; Completion of OB/GYN residency; Board certified/board eligible preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong proficiency with EPIC documentation and order entry
• Skilled in inpatient labor & delivery workflows and postpartum care
• Experience collaborating with MFM teams and working within a hospitalist model
• Excellent procedural skills for C-sections and operative vaginal deliveries
• Effective communication and teamwork with nursing, surgical assistants, and ancillary staff
• Ability to triage and manage acute obstetric issues calmly and decisively
