Geriatric Nursing Assistant

Location: Bowie, MD

Contract Type: Per-Diem

Shift Type: Per Diem / As-needed, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Day), 30-minute meal break

Hours per Week: 40

Candidate Pay Rate: $18 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

Provide compassionate, hands-on care to geriatric residents, helping with activities of daily living
Assist with safe transfers, mobility support, and fall prevention
Monitor and record vital signs and resident conditions accurately
Support mealtime assistance and encourage proper nutrition
Communicate changes in resident status to nursing staff and participate in care planning
Maintain a clean, safe environment and follow infection control protocols
Document care activities and observations clearly and timely

Qualifications

Certified Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) or equivalent certification required
High school diploma or GED preferred
Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willing to obtain
Comfortable working with older adults and assisting with mobility and ADLs
Ability to pass background check and any state-required screenings
Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude

Education

High school diploma or equivalent; GNA certification required

Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of basic geriatric care principles and dignity-centered care
Skilled in assisting with bathing, dressing, toileting, and feeding
Ability to take and document vital signs accurately
Familiarity with infection control and safe handling procedures
Good observational skills and the ability to report changes promptly
Friendly, patient, and respectful communication with residents and families
