Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive echocardiography studies (Transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, Color-flow Doppler, Transesophageal) with accuracy and clinical confidence
- Conduct exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography to provide actionable diagnostic information
- Perform additional cardiac diagnostic studies such as EKGs, Holter prep/monitoring/analysis and cardiac stress tests
- Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment (echocardiographs, Holter monitors, stress systems) and ensure accurate computer analysis
- Use hospital information systems for scheduling, processing and correct documentation of studies
- Implement infection control and aseptic techniques to ensure patient and staff safety
- Provide age-specific, compassionate care including neonatal and pediatric patients
- Precept and mentor students from contracted colleges and universities, offering clinical guidance
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required
- Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program and/or 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience required
- Preferred: Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography
- Preferred: Extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience, including pediatric and neonatal echocardiography
- Comfortable providing preceptorship and clinical guidance to students
Education
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography techniques (2-D, M-Mode, Color Doppler)
- Experience with exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography
- Ability to perform and analyze EKGs and Holter monitoring
- Skilled in cardiac stress testing protocols and equipment operation
- Working knowledge of infection control and equipment disinfection
- Familiarity with hospital information systems for scheduling and documentation
- Ability to provide age-specific care, including neonatal and pediatric patients
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with physicians, nursing staff and students
