Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver high-quality nursing care for patients of all ages in emergency and acute settings
- Assess patient condition, make sound clinical judgments, and initiate appropriate interventions
- Respond calmly and effectively in emergencies and provide advanced life support as needed
- Supervise, delegate to, and support CNAs/Techs to ensure safe patient care
- Transcribe and document physician orders accurately into the medical record and MAR
- Maintain infection control standards and ensure patient/resident safety at all times
- Manage supplies and equipment levels; report needs to nursing leadership
- Contribute to department policies, care plans, and quality improvement activities
- Provide patient and family education and advocate for patient rights and dignity
- Participate in training, staff meetings, and collaborative care planning
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state (agency staff must have active Alaska license; direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date)
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma)
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS (must be obtained within 6 months of hire if not current; maintained biannually as required)
- Clinical Competency and High Risk Competency assessments (required within specified timetables and ongoing)
- TNCC preferred and required for Emergency Department nurses
- Ability to make independent clinical decisions and work effectively under pressure
- Experience: None required; acute care, ED, or long-term care experience preferred
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of nursing and medical practices, policies, and standards of care
- Familiarity with laws, regulations, and guidelines relevant to hospital and long-term care
- Excellent assessment, documentation, and medication administration skills
- Infection control and isolation technique expertise
- Effective supervisory and team collaboration skills
- Clear communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
