Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, hands-on personal care for residents, supporting activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing and feeding
• Take and record vital signs and measure outputs accurately to support clinical decision-making
• Observe, document and report changes in residents’ physical and mental conditions promptly
• Assist with restorative care activities including range of motion and use of assistive devices to promote independence
• Follow infection control procedures and universal precautions to protect residents and staff
• Work as an active member of the treatment team, participating in care planning and patient assessments
• Respect resident rights and maintain dignity while delivering direct personal care

Qualifications

• Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification or equivalent
• At least 6 months of experience working in a long-term care (LTC) facility
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers certification required within six months of employment
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand simple sentences in English and follow instructions precisely
• Demonstrated patience, tact and an even temperament when working with residents
• Physical ability to perform essential duties of the role and assist with patient mobility

Education

• CNA certification (required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers (must be obtained within six months of employment)

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient care and personal hygiene best practices
• Infection control and universal precautions
• Taking vital signs and basic nursing skills
• Measuring output and recognizing abnormal signs and symptoms
• Restorative care techniques, assistive devices and range of motion activities
• Strong observation, documentation and communication skills
• Cultural competency and the ability to work well in a team
