Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform initial age-appropriate nursing assessments to establish patient needs quickly and clearly
- Conduct ongoing reassessments and monitor patient status to guide timely interventions
- Develop and implement individualized plans of care based on assessment and physician orders
- Administer medications safely using proper verification and evaluate patient responses
- Document patient care accurately and promptly in accordance with hospital policy
- Coordinate handoffs and communicate patient care activities to the healthcare team
- Complete discharge assessments and teach patients and families to ensure a safe transition home
- Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and bedside rounding to support coordinated care
- Support quality improvement initiatives and report opportunities to enhance patient safety
- Respond to emergency and disaster procedures, contributing to community readiness
Qualifications
- Current Maine RN license or a compact RN license (required)
- BLS certification (required); ACLS preferred
- Immunizations up-to-date: varicella, HepB (or declination), MMR, Tdap, and PPD/titer as specified
- Ability to perform nursing assessments and care across all age groups
- Comfort with physical job demands including mobility assistance and lifting up to 30 lbs
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and critical thinking/problem-solving ability
- Willingness to complete onboarding with HR and provide required agency documentation (W-9, COI)
Education
- Current RN license (Maine or compact) required
- BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Nursing assessment and patient reassessment across age groups
- Medication administration and use of drug reference resources
- Care planning, documentation, and specialty/supplemental nursing notes
- Patient education and discharge planning
- Emergency/disaster preparedness and ability to implement protocols
- Quality improvement mindset and the ability to recommend process improvements
- Mobility assistance (wheelchairs, stretchers) and basic patient handling
- Attention to infection control and safe handling of bloodborne pathogens and cleaning agents
