Roles & Responsibilities

• Produce high-quality cardiac and vascular ultrasound images by selecting the right technical factors, transducers, and settings.
• Verify orders, obtain patient history, explain procedures, and create a comforting environment that keeps patients informed and at ease.
• Use independent judgment during exams to identify normal versus pathologic findings and determine when images are diagnostic-quality.
• Independently operate sonographic equipment and communicate diagnostic findings clearly and professionally.
• Manage daily lab operations including patient scheduling, inventory of supplies, and ensuring a clean, safe workspace.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance, report failures promptly, and work with biomedical teams to minimize downtime.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation in both paper and electronic formats, following Epic workflows.
• Lead and participate in quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and departmental performance.
• Follow sterilization protocols and regulatory standards, ensuring compliance with The Joint Commission and applicable laws.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of ultrasound technologist experience (required)
• Proven proficiency in Cardiac Ultrasound (required)
• Proven proficiency in Vascular Ultrasound (required)
• Active ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) certification (required)
• Active BLS (AHA) certification (required)
• Current and accurate skills checklist (documented within 1 year) and 2 supervisory reference forms from within the last 2 years (submission required)
• Comfortable using Epic for documentation and order verification
• Professional, ethical, and self-motivated with a commitment to lifelong learning
• Must provide permanent address (facility requires candidates outside a 50-mile radius; local candidates will not be considered)

Education

• Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Ultrasound program (or equivalent clinical training)
• ARDMS certification (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Diagnostic ultrasound/sonography techniques for cardiac and vascular studies
• Image acquisition and optimization, including transducer selection and technical settings
• Operation and basic troubleshooting of sonographic equipment
• Strong patient assessment, history-taking, and communication skills
• Clinical documentation best practices and electronic charting (Epic)
• Quality assurance and quality improvement methodologies
• Sterilization techniques and adherence to infection-control protocols
• Familiarity with The Joint Commission standards and regulatory compliance
• Patient scheduling and workflow management
