Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor hemodynamically stable and predictably unstable patients using skilled clinical judgment
• Provide high-quality direct patient care from admission through discharge, including discharge planning
• Operate and manage advanced medical equipment such as ventilators, arterial lines, chest tubes and IV pumps
• Interpret telemetry and EKG data to detect changes and escalate care as needed
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—providers, charge nurses and ancillary staff—to achieve patient goals
• Serve as a clinical leader on the unit: precept new staff, provide direction to nursing support staff, and model best practices
• Deliver compassionate, culturally sensitive care that supports patients’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs

Qualifications

• Current Montana RN licensure (required)
• BLS, ACLS and PALS required or to be obtained within 6 months of hire
• Practice experience in an advanced medical/surgical unit with recent Progressive Care or Critical Care experience required
• Preferred certifications: EPNC and TNCC
• Comfort and competence with central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes and continuous bladder irrigation
• Ability to operate multiple IV pumps and provide short-term ventilatory support

Education

• Degree from a Nursing Program

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in patient assessment and advanced nursing principles and procedures
• Telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation
• Hands-on experience with ventilator support and invasive/noninvasive respiratory care
• Skilled in central line and arterial line care, chest tube management and NG tube care
• Strong clinical leadership, collaboration, and effective communication with interdisciplinary teams
• Experience in medical/surgical, progressive care and critical care patient populations, including pediatrics
