Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate orthopedic nursing care for post-op and inpatient patients
• Perform dressing changes, suture and staple removal, and wound VAC maintenance
• Manage Foley catheters and NG tube care safely and per unit protocols
• Document patient care accurately in Cerner and communicate changes in condition
• Use safe patient handling techniques and assistive lifts to protect patients and staff
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to create and follow individualized care plans
• Teach patients and families post-op care, discharge instructions and mobility techniques
• Adapt quickly to a busy unit and support teammates to maintain excellent patient ratios

Qualifications

• Active NC Registered Nurse license required
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience; orthopedics or med-surgical experience preferred
• Experience with Cerner or other EMR systems is a plus
• Comfortable with wound care, Foley and NG tube management, and wound VACs
• Ability to safely perform patient handling and use mechanical lifts

Knowledge & Skills

• Orthopedic nursing and post-operative care principles
• Med-surgical assessment and clinical decision making
• Wound care best practices including dressing changes and VAC maintenance
• Foley catheter and NG tube insertion care and troubleshooting
• Proficiency with Cerner EMR documentation
• Strong communication, teamwork and time management skills
• Safe patient handling and use of lifts and mobility devices
