Roles & Responsibilities

• Collect, receive, and process patient specimens (blood, urine, fecal, body fluids) with care and accuracy
• Perform and troubleshoot complex laboratory procedures across clinical departments
• Monitor instruments and review temperature logs and instrument indicators to ensure reliable results
• Analyze quality control data and take appropriate corrective actions to maintain accuracy and precision
• Participate in evaluation and implementation of new methods and procedures, including procedure writing
• Respond to inquiries about test methodology, specificity, sensitivity, and factors affecting results
• Maintain and demonstrate competency in laboratory skills and document training/competencies
• Contribute to a safe, compliant, and patient-centered laboratory environment

Qualifications

• CLS (ASCP) or MT (ASCP) certification, or equivalent certification
• New Medical Technologist graduates must pass the certification exam within 6 months of employment start date
• Demonstrated experience with specimen collection, processing, and receiving
• Proven ability to perform complex laboratory procedures and troubleshoot instrumentation
• Strong attention to detail and experience with quality control practices
• Comfortable documenting procedures and participating in method evaluation and problem solving

Education

• Bachelor's degree preferred (Associates degree acceptable for grandfathered personnel)

Knowledge & Skills

• Specimen handling, collection, processing, and receiving across specimen types and age ranges
• Laboratory testing methodologies and complex procedure performance
• Quality control interpretation and corrective actions to ensure result integrity
• Instrument monitoring and temperature log review
• Laboratory documentation, procedure writing, and competency maintenance
• Method evaluation and establishing reference intervals
• Clear communication of test methodology, limitations, and result interpretation
• Analytical problem solving and attention to regulatory compliance
