Roles & Responsibilities
- Interpret telemetry strips and sign at least once per shift to ensure accurate cardiac monitoring
- Provide high-quality nursing care for telemetry and medical-surgical patients including CHF, post-cath, respiratory, GI, diabetic, COVID, and total joint replacement cases
- Administer and monitor set-rate drips (e.g., Diltiazem/Cardizem at set rates) per unit protocols
- Collaborate with charge nurse, house supervisor, RTs, monitor techs, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate safe patient care
- Document thoroughly and promptly in Cerner to maintain clear clinical records
- Support and mentor unit staff, assist with patient transfers, and float to other units as needed
- Participate in the 1-shift unit-specific orientation and required orientation hours to get up to speed quickly
Qualifications
- Active RN license (Arizona or compact) required
- BLS and ACLS certifications required prior to start
- Minimum 2 years of acute care experience, with telemetry experience strongly preferred
- Proven ability to read and interpret basic telemetry strips and dysrhythmias
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with a score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract start
- Cerner charting experience recommended (there is limited orientation time)
- Experience with CVA/TIA care and total joint replacement patient management preferred
- Must not have been employed FT/PT/PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year
Education
- Active RN license (required)
- BLS and ACLS certifications (required)
- BSN preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and telemetry strip interpretation
- Dysrhythmia recognition and cardiac assessment
- Familiarity with Cerner electronic charting
- Experience with respiratory support equipment such as BiPAP and CPAP
- Comfort caring for patients with CHF, post-cath needs, respiratory issues, GI concerns, and diabetes
- Ability to follow set-rate drip protocols and escalate per policy
- Strong communication, triage, and teamwork skills in a fast-paced acute care setting
