Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform thorough patient assessments and deliver high-quality med-surg nursing care on a 36-bed unit
• Manage wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies, drains and chest tubes with clinical confidence
• Administer medications and manage Alaris IV pumps, including heparin drips as required
• Provide seizure and stroke care, applying NIHSS knowledge and best practices
• Document care accurately in Meditech and complete bedside shift reports to support continuity
• Conduct safety checks every 1–2 hours and participate in HAI prevention (CVC/Foley monitoring)
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, float when needed, and support unit throughput
• Support excellent patient experience through clear communication and timely responsiveness

Qualifications

• Active RN license for Tennessee (required)
• Minimum 2 years of recent med-surgical RN experience
• BLS certification (required) and NIHSS certification (required)
• Comfortable with Meditech documentation and Alaris IV pump use
• Demonstrated competence in wound care, chest tube and drain management, tracheostomy and ostomy care
• Experience with seizure and stroke patients; heparin drip familiarity
• Able to work nights and meet scheduling requirement of 4 weekend shifts per 4-week block
• Able to lift/assist with Hoyer lifts and use unit equipment safely

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and general med-surgical care
• Meditech electronic documentation
• Alaris IV pump operation and drip management (heparin)
• Wound care, wound vac familiarity, and post-op care (including amputations/oral surgery)
• Tracheostomy and ostomy care, chest tube and drains management
• Stroke and seizure care, NIHSS application
• Infection prevention practices (CVC and Foley monitoring)
• Familiarity with PD cyclers, PCA pump exposure, Welch Allyn VS carts, Broda chairs, Hoyer lift
• Strong bedside shift report and patient communication skills
• Ability to manage 1:4 to 1:5 patient ratios in a fast-paced unit
