Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert ventilator management and lead ventilator weaning and decannulation efforts for LTAC/PCU patients
• Deliver skilled tracheostomy care and airway suctioning to ensure patient safety and comfort
• Initiate and maintain IV therapy including starting IVs, managing peripheral and central lines, and overseeing IV drips
• Manage complex wound care and infection prevention practices to promote healing and reduce complications
• Interpret cardiac rhythms and respond to dysrhythmias with timely interventions and collaboration
• Document patient care accurately in Epic and communicate critical changes to the interdisciplinary team
• Support patient and family education on home vent training and discharge planning to empower safe transitions

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license (must be valid prior to start) for North Carolina
• Minimum 2 years of LTAC/PCU nursing experience (must have LTAC/PCU experience)
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• BLS certification (preferred) and willingness to obtain any facility-required certifications
• Demonstrated experience with mechanical ventilation modes and ventilator weaning
• Familiarity with Epic charting and strong clinical documentation skills
• Comfort with floating within scope to similar units as operational needs require

Knowledge & Skills

• Mechanical ventilation and ventilator weaning
• Tracheostomy care and suctioning (ETT, NT)
• Central and peripheral line care and IV start/maintenance
• Management of IV drips and basic infusion care
• Complex wound care and infection prevention strategies
• Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Isolation precautions and safe patient handling
• Experience in LTAC/PCU and respiratory/thoracic patient populations
• Charting competency in Epic
