Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide independent APP coverage in the ED fast track (VUE), managing a 10-bed area and a high patient throughput
- Perform rapid patient assessment, triage, and clinical decision-making for emergency presentations
- Initiate and manage admission orders in collaboration with hospital house officers and residents when appropriate
- Document thoroughly and efficiently using Cerner EMR to ensure continuity of care
- Collaborate with attending physicians, residents, and specialty services for transfers and higher-acuity cases
- Follow trauma, stroke, and transfer protocols to route patients to the appropriate receiving facility
- Maintain timely communication with family, nursing staff, and consultants to support patient flow and quality care
- Adhere to site-specific processes including DocTime clocking and occupational health clearance requirements
Qualifications
- Board Certified (required) — will only accept Board Certified applicants
- Active NP or PA licensure (or ability to obtain Michigan licensure) and current national certification
- Proven Emergency Medicine experience or comfort working independently in a fast-paced ED/fast-track environment
- Proficiency with Cerner EMR
- Current BLS; ACLS preferred or available per site requirements
- Required occupational health documentation: Hep B (series or titer), MMR, Varicella (vaccine series or titer), annual flu (current season), COVID documentation, TB test within 12 months, and TDAP within 10 years
Education
- Graduate degree from an accredited NP or PA program (Master’s or higher) and national certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong patient assessment and triage skills for emergency presentations
- Experience with fast-track/urgent care workflows and efficient throughput
- Familiarity with admission order processes and collaboration with IM/surgical residents
- Understanding of trauma and transfer protocols and regional referral patterns
- Comfort managing a high-volume ED (annual volume ~40,150) and dividing patient load in team settings
- Effective communication and teamwork with attending physicians and residents
- Competence using Cerner EMR for documentation and orders
