Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate hands-on care to geriatric residents, assisting with activities of daily living like bathing, dressing, and grooming
• Support safe mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and assistive equipment to protect residents and yourself
• Take and record vital signs accurately and report any concerning changes to nursing staff promptly
• Maintain clear, timely documentation of care provided and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team
• Help create a comfortable, dignified environment that promotes independence and quality of life
• Adhere to infection control practices and facility policies to keep residents safe
• Build rapport with residents and families, offering reassurance and respectful communication

Qualifications

• Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification or completion of a state-approved GNA program (required)
• Current basic life support (BLS) certification preferred or willingness to obtain
• Ability to pass background checks and meet facility health screening requirements (TB test, immunizations)
• Comfortable assisting with transfers and ADLs; ability to lift/assist per facility safe-lift policies
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
• Previous experience in long-term care, rehab, or geriatric settings is a plus

Education

• High school diploma or GED and completion of a state-approved GNA program

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
• Skill in safe resident handling and mobility assistance
• Ability to measure and interpret basic clinical data (vitals, intake/output)
• Familiarity with infection prevention and standard precautions
• Good documentation habits and attention to detail
• Empathy, patience, and strong interpersonal skills
• Time management and the ability to prioritize resident needs
• Collaborative approach when working with nurses, therapists, and support staff
