Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care for geriatric patients, assisting with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding)
- Monitor patients' condition and report meaningful observations to the nursing team
- Support mobility and safe transfers, reducing fall risk and promoting independence
- Assist with meal service and documentation of intake and basic meal observations
- Maintain a clean, safe environment and follow infection control procedures
- Build rapport with residents and families to support emotional well-being
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to deliver person-centered care
Qualifications
- Current GNA / Geriatric Nursing Assistant certification (required)
- BLS/CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain promptly
- Current state-required immunizations and health screenings per facility policy
- Comfort working with older adults and those with mobility or cognitive challenges
- Positive attitude, strong communication skills, and ability to follow care plans
- Previous experience in long-term care, rehabilitation, or skilled nursing is a plus
Education
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of an approved GNA training program or equivalent certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Practical knowledge of ADLs, transfers, positioning, and safe patient handling
- Familiarity with basic documentation and charting practices
- Understanding of infection control and standard precautions
- Good observational skills to notice changes in patient condition
- Teamwork mindset and ability to take direction from RNs and supervisors
- Compassionate communication with residents and family members
