Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead the emergency department during the night shift as the Charge Nurse, ensuring smooth operations and patient flow
- Assess and prioritize incoming patients, directing triage and assigning care appropriately
- Provide hands-on acute care and advanced life support as needed in emergency situations
- Supervise, mentor, and support nursing staff and ancillary team members on shift
- Coordinate with physicians, respiratory therapy, and ancillary services to deliver timely care
- Maintain accurate documentation, adherence to protocols, and compliance with hospital policies
- Facilitate safe patient transfers, admissions and discharges during night operations
Qualifications
- Active CA RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
- Proven Charge Nurse experience in an Emergency Department (ER) — must be able to lead a night team
- Comfortable and experienced working night shifts
- Proof of negative TB screen within 12 months of contract start required
- Willingness to work a 13-week travel contract and start on the posted date
Knowledge & Skills
- Emergency nursing assessment and rapid decision-making
- Triage and patient flow management in a busy ER
- Leadership, delegation, and team coordination on night shifts
- ACLS/PALS protocols and advanced cardiac/respiratory support
- Strong communication with multidisciplinary teams and families
- Familiarity with infection control and hospital documentation practices
