Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity telemetry and stepdown nursing care, delivering safe, evidence-based treatments to post-CVA, cardiac, respiratory, and complex medical patients
• Continuously monitor and interpret ECG strips and telemetry, making timely assessments and notifying providers as needed
• Titrate heparin per protocol and manage other non-titrating drips, while ensuring accurate documentation in Cerner
• Deliver primary nursing when nurse aide support is limited, coordinating care and prioritizing patient safety
• Collaborate with hospitalists, RT, and pharmacy to provide 24/7 continuity of care
• Support unit flow by floating to med-surg when needed and assisting with post-cardiac cath and post-op patients as assigned
• Participate in unit-specific orientation and ongoing competency checks to maintain high standards of care

Qualifications

• Current RN license, eligible to practice in California
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience, including telemetry or stepdown care
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification required or demonstrated stroke assessment experience
• Proven ability to read and interpret ECG/strips and manage heparin titration
• Comfort with BiPAP familiarity and caring for respiratory compromise
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• Willingness to prioritize the travel assignment schedule and not maintain a second job

Education

• Active RN license (California)
• BSN not required (associate degree or diploma acceptable); ongoing professional development encouraged

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and ECG/strip interpretation
• Stroke recognition and post-CVA management
• ACLS and advanced cardiac life support protocols
• Heparin titration and safe anticoagulation practices
• Experience with BiPAP and respiratory support measures
• Familiarity with Cerner electronic charting and documentation
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and primary nursing skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
