Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide skilled, compassionate nursing care to patients in the Step-Down Unit
• Monitor and interpret cardiac and hemodynamic data to guide timely interventions
• Administer medications and IV therapies safely and according to policy
• Collaborate closely with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to develop and update patient care plans
• Perform thorough patient assessments and document clinical changes accurately in the medical record
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge planning
• Respond to emergent situations, escalate appropriately, and participate in unit-based improvement efforts

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana (or compact license where applicable)
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred or willing to obtain
• Experience working in a Step-Down Unit, progressive care, or critical care setting preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills, including telemetry and post-ICU patient management
• Current CPR certification and ability to pass background / health screenings
• Reliable, professional, and able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency with cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
• Experience with IV medications, titratable drips, and infusion safety
• Solid assessment skills for post-ICU and high-acuity patients
• Comfortable with common hospital documentation/EHR systems
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and respond quickly during clinical changes
