Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to step-down/SDU patients
• Assess and monitor patient condition, intervening promptly as needed
• Coordinate with interdisciplinary team members to support seamless care transitions
• Administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely and according to policy
• Document patient status and interventions accurately and in a timely manner
• Educate patients and families about care plans and discharge instructions
• Support unit throughput by managing admissions, discharges, and transfers efficiently

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana (LA) required
• Experience caring for step-down (SDU) or progressive care patients preferred
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS preferred or as required by facility
• Comfortable working 12.5-hour shifts and adapting to variable schedules
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced acute care team

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of progressive/step-down care principles and telemetry monitoring
• Proficiency with medication administration and IV therapy
• Accurate and timely electronic health record documentation
• Ability to prioritize multiple patients and delegate when appropriate
• Skilled in patient/family education and care coordination
