Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care in the Step-Down Unit with vigilance and compassion
• Monitor and interpret telemetry and other patient data to detect changes quickly
• Administer medications and therapies accurately while following established protocols
• Collaborate closely with physicians, respiratory therapists and multidisciplinary colleagues to optimize patient outcomes
• Educate patients and families about care plans, discharge instructions and ongoing recovery
• Participate in care coordination and discharge planning to ensure safe transitions
• Document assessments, interventions and patient responses clearly and timely in the medical record

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or eligibility for licensure
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS preferred
• Comfortable and experienced working 12.5-hour clinical shifts
• Prior experience in a Step-Down Unit, telemetry, or critical care setting preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to complete standard pre-employment requirements (background check, immunizations, etc.)

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation
• Cardiopulmonary assessment and early recognition of deterioration
• IV medication administration and infusion pump familiarity
• Excellent clinical judgment and critical thinking
• Clear interdisciplinary communication and teamwork
• Accurate electronic charting and documentation
