Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients in the PICU
• Assess, monitor and respond to changes in patient condition using sound clinical judgment
• Administer medications and therapies safely and according to protocols
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, respiratory therapists, and families to develop and execute care plans
• Operate and troubleshoot advanced monitoring and life-support equipment
• Document patient care accurately in the medical record and communicate clear handoffs during transitions
• Participate in orientation, ongoing education, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Current RN licensure (Massachusetts) — required
• Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred or required depending on facility policy
• Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to manage critically ill children
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to attend orientation prior to starting assignment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric critical care principles and practices
• Experience with ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring, and vasoactive infusions
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate documentation
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and respond quickly in high-acuity situations
• Family-centered care and effective communication with parents and caregivers
