Roles & Responsibilities

Provide attentive post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients in the PACU
Continuously monitor and assess pediatric vital signs and recovery status
Administer medications and manage IV therapy per orders and protocols
Collaborate closely with anesthesia, surgical teams, and family members for safe handoffs
Document patient condition, interventions, and discharge readiness accurately
Recognize and respond promptly to changes in condition and escalate when needed
Participate in orientation and unit processes to maintain high-quality patient care

Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (Massachusetts) or ability to obtain licensure
Experience or demonstrated competency in PACU and pediatric patient care
Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
Strong assessment skills and the ability to manage post-anesthesia recovery
Effective communication skills with families and multidisciplinary teams
Ability to participate in orientation as required

Education

Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate care techniques
Airway management and monitoring in the immediate post-anesthesia period
Medication administration and IV management
Accurate clinical documentation and handoff communication
Calm, efficient response to urgent changes in patient status
Teamwork and collaboration with perioperative and anesthesia colleagues
