Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor pediatric patients in the post-anesthesia care unit, ensuring safe recovery from anesthesia
• Manage pain control and comfort measures using evidence-based practices
• Perform timely and accurate documentation of patient status, interventions, and handoffs
• Collaborate closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and the perioperative team to coordinate care
• Maintain airway, IV access, and hemodynamic stability; intervene promptly when needed
• Provide clear education and compassionate communication with families about recovery and discharge instructions
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required; PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required or strongly preferred
• Experience in PACU and/or pediatric nursing preferred
• Strong pediatric assessment, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced perioperative environment and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to complete required orientation and competency validations

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric post-anesthesia assessment and monitoring
• Airway management and basic ventilatory support
• IV/medication administration and titration in pediatrics
• Familiarity with EHR documentation and perioperative workflows
• Effective communication with families and surgical teams
• Patient safety practices, handoff communication, and teamwork
