Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care for pediatric patients in the PACU, ensuring safe recovery from anesthesia
• Closely monitor vital signs, airway status, and pain, and intervene promptly when needed
• Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the multidisciplinary care team to optimize patient outcomes
• Educate families and caregivers on post-operative care and discharge instructions with clarity and empathy
• Document clinical findings, interventions, and patient progress accurately in the medical record
• Participate in orientation and unit-based training to maintain high standards of pediatric PACU care

Qualifications

• Active RN license (Missouri licensure or applicable compact privileges preferred)
• PACU experience and a comfort working with pediatric patients (Peds PACU experience a strong plus)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred or encouraged
• Strong assessment skills, critical thinking, and effective communication with families and team members
• Ability to pass facility orientation and any required competencies

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia care principles and PACU workflow
• Pediatric assessment, pain management, and age-appropriate interventions
• Airway monitoring and basic airway management for post-op patients
• IV therapy, medication administration, and recovery monitoring
• Clear documentation and handoff communication practices
• Teamwork, adaptability, and calm decision-making in a fast-paced setting
