Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess patients' recovery from anesthesia, ensuring stable vitals and comfort
• Administer medications and pain management as ordered and evaluate effectiveness
• Provide attentive, compassionate post-op care and clear patient/family education
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical teams, and unit staff for smooth handoffs
• Perform timely documentation in the medical record and communicate changes in condition
• Recognize and respond to emergencies, escalating care when needed to keep patients safe
• Maintain PACU equipment readiness and strict infection control practices

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Louisiana (or compact/multi-state if applicable)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
• Previous PACU, PACU/OR, or post-op recovery experience preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills and comfort with airway and hemodynamic monitoring
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills to work with perioperative teams
• Willingness to complete facility orientation and competency requirements

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
• BSN preferred where available

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and post-anesthesia monitoring
• IV therapy, medication administration, and pain management
• Airway management basics and rapid recognition of clinical deterioration
• Familiarity with perioperative workflows and handoff communication
• Accurate clinical documentation and electronic health record usage
• Calm decision-making under pressure and collaborative problem solving
