Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, expert post-anesthesia care to patients in PACU
• Continuously monitor patients' vitals and recovery status, and intervene as needed
• Administer medications, manage pain protocols, and document care accurately
• Collaborate closely with anesthesia, surgical teams, and interdisciplinary staff
• Perform safe patient handoffs and clear communication during transitions of care
• Maintain patient safety standards, infection control, and unit-specific policies
• Support quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a positive unit culture

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for Louisiana required
• Prior PACU or post-anesthesia care experience preferred
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred or completed within facility timeframe
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills with comfort in acute recovery care
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shift blocks and collaborate in a fast-paced perioperative setting

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia assessment and recovery management
• Airway and respiratory monitoring, pain management, and hemodynamic assessment
• IV therapy, medication administration, and documentation best practices
• Familiarity with perioperative workflows and interprofessional communication
• Comfort with electronic medical records and accurate charting
• Calm, decisive critical thinking and patient advocacy under pressure
