Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality post-anesthesia care to adult and/or pediatric patients as they recover from anesthesia
• Continuously assess patients' airway, breathing and circulation, intervening quickly when needed
• Manage pain and nausea with evidence-based interventions and timely medication administration
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons and the perioperative team to ensure smooth handoffs and clear communication
• Monitor and document patient status, recovery milestones, and discharge readiness according to unit protocols
• Educate patients and families about immediate postoperative care, discharge instructions and follow-up

Qualifications

• Current RN license (must be able to practice in Louisiana or obtain state licensure)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred or required per facility policy
• Previous PACU or post-anesthesia/perioperative nursing experience preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills, prioritization, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia patient assessment and monitoring
• Airway management and oxygen therapy
• IV medication administration and titration
• Pain and nausea management strategies
• Familiarity with PACU protocols, PACU flow and discharge criteria
• Effective interdisciplinary communication and documentation
