Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to neuro stepdown patients, monitoring changes and intervening quickly
• Perform focused neurological assessments and communicate findings clearly to the care team
• Administer medications safely and manage complex infusion therapies when required
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and multidisciplinary staff to coordinate patient-centered care
• Educate patients and families on condition, treatment plans, and discharge needs with empathy
• Document care accurately in the electronic health record and maintain clinical compliance
• Actively participate in shift handoffs to ensure continuity and safe transitions of care
• Contribute to a positive unit culture by mentoring peers and supporting quality improvement

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license in Louisiana or eligible for state licensure
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Previous acute care nursing experience; neuro or stepdown experience highly desirable
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and prioritization skills
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively on a multidisciplinary team
• Current CPR certification

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN). BSN preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of neurological assessments and stroke/neurologic monitoring
• Medication administration and IV/infusion pump competency
• Familiarity with electronic health records and accurate clinical documentation
• Ability to respond to rapid changes in patient condition and escalate appropriately
• Time management, delegation, and teamwork in a fast-paced acute care setting
