Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor and respond to changes in the neurological status of patients in the Neuro Stepdown unit
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately, following established protocols
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists and interdisciplinary team members to deliver coordinated care
• Provide patient- and family-centered education about condition, treatment plans and discharge goals
• Document assessments, interventions and patient responses thoroughly in the clinical record
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and safety practices to enhance patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice (LA preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Clinical experience or demonstrated competence in Neuro Stepdown/SDU or similar acute care settings preferred
• Strong assessment, critical thinking and patient advocacy skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Neurological assessment and monitoring (neuro checks, intracranial pressure awareness)
• Telemetry and cardiac rhythm recognition
• IV medication administration and infusion pump management
• Proficient documentation in electronic health record systems
• Clear communication and care coordination with multidisciplinary teams
• Time management and prioritization in a high-acuity setting
