Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor MedSurg/Neuro patients, performing thorough patient assessments and timely documentation
• Administer medications and titrate IV drips (heparin, lidocaine, ketamine) safely and per protocol
• Manage PCA pumps and other titratable/set-rate drips with precision
• Provide focused post-operative neurosurgery and stroke care, ensuring compassionate recovery support
• Read telemetry with situational awareness and collaborate with tele/monitor techs for patient safety
• Lead hourly rounding and responsiveness efforts to proactively address patient needs
• Coordinate admissions and discharges efficiently to keep patient flow moving
• Use EPIC for accurate charting and interprofessional communication

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (able to submit with valid driver’s license)
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience (MedSurg/Telemetry/Neuro experience preferred)
• Comfortable titrating drips (heparin, lidocaine, ketamine) and managing PCA pumps
• Ability to pass an open-book orientation skills exam with a 90% score
• Clean license and background (no license or background hits allowed)
• Willingness to float to other MedSurg areas as needed and be a flexible team player
• Cultural competence and experience serving diverse patient populations; multilingual caregivers encouraged

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN, diploma or BSN acceptable)
• BSN not required for this role
• Current RN license in appropriate jurisdiction

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong MedSurg nursing fundamentals and neuro/stroke care knowledge
• Telemetry monitoring awareness and basic strip interpretation
• Proficiency with EPIC charting system
• Medication administration and IV drip titration skills
• Familiarity with PCA pumps and common titratable drips
• Hourly rounding best practices and patient-centered care
• Mechanical lift operation experience a plus
• Ability to manage multiple discharges/admissions in a busy MedSurg environment
