Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care on a 22-room private Med/Surg unit
• Manage a patient assignment typically at a 1:4-5 nurse:patient ratio and prioritize safe outcomes
• Perform post-op care and manage common acute diagnoses such as sepsis, pneumonia, COPD and diabetes
• Titrate heparin drips safely and document all medication titrations accurately
• Maintain sterile technique during Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
• Participate in SIMs Lab competency validation and apply learned skills at the bedside
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including RT and house supervisors for coordinated patient care
• Float to other med/surg/telemetry units when needed and step into charge responsibilities when requested
• Document patient care using Cerner and complete required orientation and competency hours

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (eligible to practice in AZ)
• Minimum 2 years recent Med/Surg nursing experience
• MUST HAVE: Level 1 trauma experience
• Current BLS certification (required)
• Competent with Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (SIMs Lab pass required)
• Experience with heparin titration and managing related protocols
• Comfortable with post-op care, sepsis management, wound care and common med/surg diagnoses
• Preferred: charge nurse experience and telemetry experience (telemetry preferred for float coverage)
• Travel-specific: own vehicle, available for travel assignment requirements, and able to meet site-specific appearance/fit-test rules (natural hair color, no facial piercings, men clean-shaven for fit test)
• Must pass the DYS exam prior to accepting the assignment (two attempts allowed)

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN/ASN or BSN)
• BSN preferred but not required
• Current BLS required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong med/surg clinical assessment and prioritization skills
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic charting
• Sterile field maintenance and infection prevention techniques
• Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing care
• Heparin drip titration and safe medication administration
• Basic wound care, restraint application knowledge, and safe patient lifts
• Ability to float across med/surg and telemetry units and adapt quickly
• Clear communication, teamwork, and clinical judgment under pressure
