Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care on the Med-Surg/stroke unit
• Assess patients regularly and respond to changes in condition with skill and urgency
• Administer medications and treatments safely and document care accurately
• Perform NIHSS stroke assessments and collaborate on stroke-focused care plans
• Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to coordinate safe discharges and transitions
• Mentor colleagues and contribute to a positive, safety-focused culture
• Respond to emergencies and critical situations with calm, competent action

Qualifications

• Active RN license (able to work in Illinois — state license or compact privileges)
• NIHSS certification required for this Med-Surg stroke unit position
• Med-Surg nursing experience, ideally with recent night-shift work
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support); ACLS preferred or available through employer
• Strong assessment, communication, and documentation skills
• Ability to work autonomously on nights and collaborate with the care team

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of Med-Surg nursing practices and acute care workflows
• Experience with stroke patient monitoring and NIHSS assessment
• Medication administration safety and IV therapy competence
• Charting and electronic medical record comfort
• Triage, prioritization, and time management during night shifts
• Team communication and patient/family education skills
