Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert bedside care for critically ill patients, including ventilated and post-cardiac surgery patients
• Monitor and interpret hemodynamic data to guide timely interventions
• Manage mechanical ventilation and troubleshoot ventilator issues with confidence
• Support ECMO and heart transplant care when indicated, collaborating with specialty teams
• Perform thorough shift-to-shift bedside report and maintain an up-to-date whiteboard for continuity
• Document care accurately in Meditech and communicate critical information to the care team
• Educate patients and families about procedures, recovery expectations, and discharge planning
• Work collaboratively with physicians, respiratory therapy, and allied staff to optimize outcomes
• Maintain unit safety and adherence to hospital policies, including infection control and dress code standards
• Step into leadership moments as needed during high-acuity events and support unit flow

Qualifications

• Active Texas RN license required; temporary licenses will not be accepted
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 2+ years ICU experience (CVICU or high-acuity ICU experience strongly preferred)
• Experience with hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, and post-CABG care
• Comfort working in a high-acuity unit with ECMO and heart transplant patients preferred
• Meditech EHR experience preferred
• Professional bedside manner, punctual bedside shift report, and a teamwork-first attitude

Knowledge & Skills

• Hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation
• Mechanical ventilation and ventilator weaning strategies
• Post-operative cardiac care including CABG and transplant recovery
• ECMO fundamentals and high-acuity cardiac support
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and prioritization skills
• Clear clinical documentation and effective interdisciplinary communication
• Familiarity with Meditech documentation system
• Ability to adapt to floating policies and varied ICU environments
