Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and manage critically ill patients in a 16-bed Neuro/Medical ICU with a typical 2:1 patient ratio
• Provide advanced airway management including intubation and ventilator care
• Perform and manage vascular access care such as central line and arterial line monitoring
• Care for patients with external ventricular drains and coordinate specialty consults
• Document patient care accurately in Meditech and communicate clear handoffs to the multidisciplinary team
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists and other clinicians to develop and implement care plans
• Serve as a dependable team player on night shift and contribute to a positive unit culture

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN)
• Minimum 1 year of ICU experience (explicit requirement)
• ACLS certification (required)
• Current, unrestricted RN license appropriate for practice in Texas (hold or be able to obtain)
• Comfort with critical care procedures: intubation support, central and arterial line management, EVD care
• Meditech EMR experience preferred; oncology, neuro, BMT or PCU experience a plus

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care nursing and ICU best practices
• Advanced cardiac life support and emergency response
• Intubation support and mechanical ventilation knowledge
• Central line and arterial line management
• EVD care and neuro critical care basics
• Proficiency with Meditech electronic medical record
• Ability to function in high acuity, fast-paced night shift environment
