Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor adult and geriatric patients in a 35-bed PCU/stepdown unit to ensure safe, high-quality care
• Administer and titrate cardiac and seizure drips (e.g., Cardizem, beta blockers, seizure meds) following unit protocols
• Continuously monitor telemetry and EEG trends and respond quickly to changes in patient status
• Collaborate with the charge nurse and interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care and safe discharges
• Supervise and delegate to patient care techs and aides, ensuring appropriate patient assignments and support
• Document timely, accurate patient charting using EPIC to maintain continuity of care
• Educate patients and families about care plans, medications, and recovery goals with compassion and clarity
• Participate in unit onboarding and pass the open-book orientation exam (90% required) to demonstrate competency

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for submission
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications; NIHSS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of acute care/PCU/stepdown or telemetry nursing experience
• Comfortable with EPIC charting and electronic documentation
• Proven ability to titrate IV drips and manage complex cardiac/nephrology patients
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Driver's license required at submittal (used to confirm 50-mile radius eligibility)
• Must not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit facility (including CHI or Dignity)
• Willingness to float to medical floors, ICU, or rehab when needed
• Successful completion of orientation and a 90% pass on the unit open-book exam

• PCU/Stepdown nursing and acute care clinical knowledge
• Telemetry monitoring and continuous EEG observation
• Cardiac care, nephrology basics, and common adult/geriatric diagnoses
• Medication titration and IV drip management
• Charge nurse collaboration and patient care tech oversight
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving abilities
• Familiarity with EPIC electronic health record workflows
• Adaptability in a fast-paced unit and teamwork mindset
