Shift Type: Rotating (primarily day): Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM; primarily 8-hour day shifts with 12-hour shifts possible. Call included: 3 weekday evening/night call shifts and 3 weekend call shifts per 6-week schedule. Call response time: 30 minutes. Holidays rotate with core staff.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality perioperative nursing care across pre-op, intra-op, and immediate post-op phases
• Monitor patient status continuously and maintain accurate documentation in Cerner and Surginet
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and CSTs to ensure smooth, safe procedures
• Follow preference cards and sterile technique to support efficient, infection-free operations
• Respond to call assignments within a 30-minute window when scheduled for call
• Maintain the expected 1:1 patient ratio and escalate concerns promptly to charge RN or team leads
• Support unit flow by coordinating with RT, pharmacy, and ancillary teams available 24/7

Qualifications

• Active RN license eligible for submission in California
• Minimum 2 years of recent OR or perioperative nursing experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
• Experience charting in Cerner and familiarity with Surginet preferred
• Comfortable working in a high-volume OR (15-30 cases per day) and supporting a variety of cases including ortho, neuro, and general surgery
• Ability to participate in call rotations and weekend/holiday coverage

Education

• BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative nursing and patient monitoring best practices
• EMR proficiency: Cerner and Surginet documentation workflows
• Familiarity with sterile processing concepts and preference card use
• Experience with ventilators, telemetry, and acute care equipment
• Comfort working with trauma and CVOR teams in a fast-paced OR environment
• Ability to follow decontamination and sterilization processes (Sterad, Steris, washer and steam disinfection)
