Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered Med/Surg nursing care on a 20-bed neuro Med/Surg unit
• Assess and prioritize patient needs; deliver timely interventions for changing conditions
• Start and manage IVs, perform wound care, and maintain nasogastric and chest tubes
• Monitor telemetry and respond to cardiac or respiratory changes promptly
• Document all care accurately in Meditech and maintain clear bedside shift reports
• Collaborate closely with unit techs, unit secretaries, and the interdisciplinary team
• Support patient and family education and involve them in care planning
• Adhere to unit policies and safety protocols in a stroke/trauma/cardiac-focused facility

Qualifications

• Active RN license (required)
• BLS certification (required)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg nursing experience
• Comfortable with telemetry monitoring and patient prioritization
• Skilled in IV insertion, wound care, and maintenance of NG and chest tubes
• Familiarity with Meditech or similar electronic documentation systems
• Ability to multitask, float per unit rotation, and work weekends as scheduled

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong clinical assessment and prioritization skills in Med/Surg settings
• Telemetry interpretation and cardiac monitoring
• Proficient with IV pumps, feeding pumps, PCA, EKG machines and bladder scanners
• Routine care of nasogastric tubes, chest tubes, and surgical drains
• Excellent documentation practices using Meditech
• Effective communication, bedside shift reporting, and family-centered care
• Experience working in an environment with stroke, trauma, and chest pain center protocols
