Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess patients emerging from anesthesia and provide vigilant post-anesthesia monitoring
- Administer medications and manage IVs, titrating therapies per protocol
- Closely monitor vital signs and recognize/respond to early signs of complications
- Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical teams, and inpatient units for safe handoffs
- Perform and document timely, accurate PACU assessments and care plans
- Provide compassionate education and discharge instructions to patients and families
- Participate in unit-based competency testing and maintain required certifications
- Respond rapidly to emergencies and contribute to a culture of safety
Qualifications
- Active RN license (state required) with Nursys verification
- PACU experience required
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification required
- Completion of CNE Skills Checklist and CNE Specialty Competency Exam as part of onboarding
- Current immunizations and health screening per facility policy (COVID-19, MMR, Hep B, Influenza, TB screening, Varicella, Tdap)
- Comfort with call responsibilities and variable shift patterns
Education
- Registered Nurse (associate or bachelor level as required by state licensure)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong postoperative assessment and monitoring skills
- Basic EKG interpretation
- Pharmacology knowledge relevant to post-anesthesia care
- Pain management and airway assessment skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork in fast-paced perioperative settings
- Documentation proficiency and attention to detail
- Core competencies in patient safety and infection control
