Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist the dentist chairside during exams and procedures, ensuring patient comfort and efficient workflow
• Prepare and maintain treatment rooms, sterilize instruments, and follow strict infection control practices
• Take and process dental radiographs as allowed by scope and facility policy
• Support patient intake and discharge, document procedures and maintain accurate patient records
• Manage dental materials and inventory to keep the clinic running smoothly
• Collaborate with the dental team and facility staff to deliver safe, respectful care in the correctional setting

Qualifications

• Active Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certification/class required
• Completion of an accredited dental assisting program preferred
• Comfortable working Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
• Willingness to follow facility policies at ISP - Ironwood State Prison
• Professional communication skills and a patient-centered attitude
• Length of orientation: 2 weeks

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an accredited dental assisting program preferred
• Active RDA certification required

Knowledge & Skills

• Chairside assisting techniques and familiarity with common dental procedures
• Infection control, sterilization, and safe handling of dental instruments
• Familiarity with dental terminology, materials, and basic instruments
• Experience or training in dental radiography is a plus
• Strong documentation skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work calmly and professionally in a correctional healthcare environment
