Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room and instruments for orthopedic procedures, ensuring sterile technique is maintained.
• Assist surgeons during cases by passing instruments, anticipating needs, and maintaining surgical counts.
• Perform setup and breakdown of instrumentation and implants with attention to manufacturer recommendations and OR protocols.
• Verify patient identity and site, participate in time-out procedures, and uphold patient safety standards throughout the case.
• Maintain accurate documentation related to surgical procedures, instrument counts, and specimen handling.
• Collaborate with perioperative team members — circulating nurses, anesthesia, and surgeons — to ensure smooth case flow.

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required
• Current BLS certification required
• License/Certificate verification as applicable by state and facility
• Experience or comfort working in orthopedic surgeries preferred
• Completion of Trinity skills checklist and specialty competency testing as part of credentialing
• Up-to-date occupational health requirements: COVID-19 vaccine, Tdap, MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza vaccine, Varicella, and required TB testing (2-step PPD or IGRA)
• Successful completion of Trinity 10-panel drug screen, color vision check, fit test, and a current physical/health statement

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong working knowledge of sterile technique and surgical asepsis
• Familiarity with orthopedic instrumentation, implants, and specialty trays
• Ability to perform and document accurate surgical counts
• Comfort working in a fast-paced OR environment and during complex cases
• Good communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with surgeons and perioperative staff
• Attention to detail for instrument handling, labeling, and specimen management
